Lymphedema Therapy
At Keary Physiotherapy, we have physiotherapists with post-graduate training in lymphedema assessment and treatment. Our lymphedema therapists treat all types of lymphedema, although many of our clients are seeking treatment for post-mastectomy lymphedema (visit our Breast Cancer Rehabilitation page for more information).
What symptoms can be treated with lymphedema therapy?
The lymphedema therapists at Keary Physiotherapy work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan, based on your specific symptoms and needs.
We can provide lymphedema therapy for any or all of the following lymphedema symptoms:
- Pain and stiffness with movements of the affected area(s)
- Swelling in affected area(s)
- Aching or feeling of fullness in affected area(s)
- Tightness or pulling sensation with movements in affected area(s)
- Loss of mobility and function as a result of lymphedema
What lymphedema treatments do we provide?
The lymphedema therapists at Keary Physiotherapy can help you get relief from post-surgical discomfort and help you regain function and mobility. We provide a range of lymphedema therapy and education.
- Manual lymph drainage, which is a safe and gentle option to decrease swelling and help you regain function
- Education on techniques you may use to self-drain between lymphedema treatments, positions and postures to help with lymph drainage, and bandaging techniques to encourage passive drainage
- Exercises that can relieve symptoms and help you gain physical function
- Education on lifestyle management and pacing to minimize lymphedema and prevent flare-ups
